Cranberry Cherry Compote
Sweet and tart at the same time! Perfect holiday side dish, or serve over poultry

Ingredients

sugar

cup
water
1/2
cup
port or other sweet red wine
1/4
teaspoon
ground cinnamon
1/8
teaspoon
grated or ground nutmeg
1/2
cup
dried tart cherries
2
cups
fresh or frozen cranberries
1/2
teaspoon
freshly grated orange zest
Instructions
Combine sugar, water, port, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a medium saucepan then bring to a boil.
Add cherries and cook for 1 minute.
Stir in cranberries; and return to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until about half the cranberries pop, 10 to 12 minutes.
Remove from the heat and stir in the orange zest.
The compote will thicken as it cools and will be ready to serve with bread, or over chicken or turkey.
