Glitter. You either love it or hate it. I have to say I fall into the dislike category since it spreads everywhere and is really hard to get rid of. I was shocked when I realized that glitter is manufactured microplastic, and have vowed never to buy glitter again. This includes glitter pens, glitter on clothing, glittery gift wrappings/cards, toys with glitter, and especially straight up glitter in a bottle. Remember, microplastics are those really tiny plastics that are not filtered out by our water treatments and end up in waterways, oceans, and even the air. The last thing we want is more microplastic pollution, which is harmful for wildlife and potentially humans.

Today’s Challenge: Ditch glitter. There are so many other awesome craft materials that you can use. And I bet your kids can make amazing art with what you already have on hand, finding supplies in nature, or by upcycling “trash”. If you are looking for a little sparkle in your life try this biodegradable glitter instead. If you are a glitter hater, like me, than this may just be your easiest challenge of the week!

I hope you were able to get some new ideas this week to reduce plastic surrounding fur babies and kids. It is definitely not about depriving them. You are not the Grinch that stops everyone’s fun. This is about taking a look at your situation to see how you can chip away at that mountain of plastic that you didn’t anticipate when you started on your parenting journey.
