We’ve spent a lot of time preparing for making meals at home. Now what about those leftovers? Don’t throw them away or let them turn into science experiments in the fridge, take them for lunch!
Today’s challenge: Find a lunch tote for every member of the family. The bags I am referring to are ones that can be used over and over. Unfortunately, plastic and papers bags will only last a few days before tearing and ultimately end up in the garbage. Let’s stop the waste! I love this cute, waxed canvas lunch bag from Etsy, which is made from natural materials and I’ve already added it to my wish list, but you don’t have to spend any money on this challenge. Take a few minutes today to search your closets and cabinets for something that can be used to carry lunches to and from your house. You could also look for second hand. I’ve picked up a few kids boxes at garage sales in the past. Or for the kiddos, check out these adorable organic cotton screen printed bags.
After you have your bags, find a central spot in your kitchen to store them. Make sure that they are easily accessible for even the little ones so they can help with packing. Prepare to rock your lunch!
You made it through a week of figuring out how to eat at home! This is a big task and you should feel good about it. If it doesn’t seem sustainable, then review your plan again and see where it makes sense to scale back. It is going to take a while to get into the meal planning habit, but in the long run you will have a big impact on the planet. How you are going to make this work in your household?
