The last step to meal planning is to make sure you have time to prep the food. And that means, yup you guessed it – more planning! But don’t skip it, this is a crucial step to following through with your meal plans.
Today’s challenge: Set a reminder on your phone or other device to check your meal plan every night. My reminder says “What’s for dinner?” That way you can determine if something needs to come out of the freezer for defrosting and how much time you will need for cooking the next day. Also, just because you planned a meal for a certain night, doesn’t mean you have to make the entire thing right then and there. This is my bonus secret to meal planning: when I make my plan for the week, I also plan the meal prep. Gymnastics, soccer practice, band, school meetings, late hours at work – life happens. And things can get pretty hectic at supper time. So, for me it is easier to chop food or even prepare the whole meal in advance and then just heat and serve. I try to do as much preparation as I can on weekends, after the kids go to bed, or early in the day if I’m able. Be creative and your dinners will come together so easily! Do you have any meal prep secrets to share?
