You just spent the whole week prepping yourself for recycling, you don’t want to sabotage the process!  According to Waste Management, one in four items placed in a blue bin is actually not recyclable at the curbside. That is a 25% contamination rate. Most countries that take recycling will only accept a max contamination rate of 0.5%. Therefore, if you put things in the recycling that are garbage then you contaminate the whole batch and risk it all getting thrown away by your recycling company. This saying is sad, but true: “When in doubt, toss it out!”       

Today’s challenge: Make sure it is crystal clear to yourself and your family what you can and cannot recycle.  Post a list and make sure everyone sticks to it. Be honest about it no matter how badly you wish you could recycle.  Have you found yourself in a situation where it pained you to throw something out that you think should be recycled?
