Ingredients

  • 1 & 1/2 pounds ground beef, pork, or turkey
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 1/2 head cabbage coarsely chopped
  • 8 ounce can tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Start meat cooking in a heavy skillet over medium high heat. While it is cooking, chop the onion and crush the garlic and add to the meat. Stir it up, using a spatula to turn it over and break it up evenly. Cover and let it continue cooking.
  • Meanwhile, chop the cabbage coarsely. Stir this into the meat mixture a bit at a time letting it start to wilt before adding more. Recover the pan.
  • Stir in the tomato sauce, lemon juice, pepper, nutmeg, cinnamon, and salt. Replace the lid and let the whole thing simmer for 5 minutes, then serve.
